explore gambier island.

Gambier Island (Chá7elkwnech) is the largest island in Howe Sound and truly exudes relaxed island vibes. It's located offshore from the community of Gibsons, within the traditional territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Nation. Gravel roads connect the three communities of New Brighton, Gambier Harbour and West Bay and is accessible by water taxi, personal boat or foot passenger ferry from Langdale.

Explore the less populated, quiet trails on this beautiful island starting with a boat trip from Bowen Island or Horseshoe Bay. Please note: our vessel, the KingFisher 2025 Escape HT, is an aluminum haul meant to tackle the rugged seas. The Howe Sound is known for it’s combination of smooth and choppy water - so be prepared for a bumpy ride depending on what the wind has in mind for your day at sea.

As with all our adventures, we are always ready to customize the excursion to your skill level and interests. Below are three wonderful hikes suitable for moderate/challenging fitness levels, however, if you are interested in a more leisurely paced outing then please do not hesitate to contact us. Our goal is to make exploring our mountains and tides enjoyable for all.

lost lake.

A serene, hidden lake sits nestled within the forest, its waters so still they reflect the sky and trees like glass. The environment is remote and undisturbed, perfect for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This hike is considered moderate as it does have some steep sections. Suitable for families with older children. Please note: travel times include boat shuttle.

PRICE: $185 + tax per person / MINIMUM GUESTS: 2 / Maximum Guests: 5

mount killam.

Our journey starts at the weathered West Bay Dock and takes us along quaint cottage lined public roads before veering into the dense, lush rainforest, where the air is thick with moisture and the sounds of birds fill the air. Rickety boardwalks wind through the trees, their wooden planks creaking underfoot as you navigate the steep, slippery terrain.

As you ascend, the landscape becomes more challenging, but the reward is worth the effort. Each step brings you closer to the summit, where the forest opens up to reveal breathtaking views of the mouth of the Howe Sound. The experience is one of both challenge and reward, the solitude allowing for deep reflection as you connect with the wild, unspoiled landscape around you. The best times to visit this trail are April through August. Please note: travel times include boat shuttle.

PRICE: $275 + tax per person / MINIMUM GUESTS: 2 / Maximum Guests: 5

mount artaban.

Gambier Island’s Mt. Artaban is noted for its significant natural values, its challenging hikes and its awe-inspiring views. We start our journey from the Halkett Bay public dock. The trailhead is accessed via the gravel road beside Camp Fircom then veers into the steep, dense rainforest, where towering trees and thick undergrowth obscure much of the sky. The air is rich with humidity, and the forest floor is soft and damp underfoot. The steep slopes of the land are challenging as you move forward, the incline becoming more pronounced as you make your way deeper into the heart of the reserve. This trail is steep from the get go and only levels out slightly when you have almost reached the summit. The reward of your journey is well worth the effort when you take in the breathtaking panoramic view. This best times to visit this trail are May through September. Please note: travel times include boat shuttle.

PRICE: $185 + tax per person / MINIMUM GUESTS: 2 / Maximum Guests: 5
